Fresh Find: Is TyFontaine Internet Money’s next superstar?

Super producers Taz Taylor and Nick Mira knew about XXXTentacion, Trippie Redd, Juice WRLD, Lil Skies, Lil Tecca, Iann Dior and Trevor Daniel way before you or I ever heard of them. Not only did they know about them, but they crafted some of their biggest hits, from “Fuck Love” and “Lucid Dreams” to “Ransom,” and propelled them into the limelight.

Fueled not only by their musical proficiency, but also their ability to develop key relationships through the Internet and make money off of online hustles like selling “type beats,” Mira, Taylor and producer SIDEPCE eventually launched a collective together along with a few other creatives, fittingly called Internet Money Records. In Oct. 2019, they made things more official by signing a joint venture deal with independent label 10K Projects.

I say all this to reinforce the idea that when Internet Money identifies untapped talent, there’s reason to believe that they may be on to something special. Such is the case with TyFontaine, a young artist from the DMV who has put out several songs with the Internet Money crew as of late, including the brash “Pay to Play” and contemplative “Imagine.” He’s also worked with “Suge” producer jetsonmade.

Background on Ty is limited. Though it looks like he’s been making music since 2017, he only has one project on Spotify while the rest of his catalog lives on SoundCloud and YouTube, where he once premiered a video with No Jumper. He’s clearly focused on experimenting and refining his skills at the moment, but his foundational sing-song style is poised to mesh well with the soundscape driving the pop rap genre, which makes sense given the clear influence you can hear from Juice WRLD and Lil Uzi Vert. His vocal range seems genuinely vast, too, and there’s a certain aggressiveness in his delivery that reminds me of Trippie Redd.

With all this potential, it’ll be interesting to see how he progresses under the guidance of Internet Money. With less than 10,000 followers on Instagram, there’s no time better than now to give TyFontaine a look.
