Elliott Wilson and Brian “B.Dot” Miller, hosts of the Rap Radar podcast, linked up with Drizzy inside his brand new Toronto mega mansion for one of man’s most insightful and outspoken interviews ever. Oh, and did I mention it’s nearly two and a half hours long? Here are 6ix highlights to whet your appetite…
1. The 6ix God doesn’t believe that Pusha T was a major cocaine dealer in his former life, a substantial shot considering this persona is a running theme across most of Pusha’s raps. Looking ahead, Drake said he has “no desire to mend anything with that person.”
2. Drake also doesn’t plan on connecting with Kanye any time soon to squash their beef, and believes Ye is at the root of fueling his ongoing issues with Pusha T. He also admitted that lyrics from his “Sicko Mode” verse, i.e., “checks over stripes,” were addressed toward Kanye.
3. Drizzy’s two favorite albums of 2019 are Young Thug’s So Much Fun and Baby Keem’s DIE FOR MY BITCH. He also shouted out Griselda at one point, a nice nod to the well-respected Buffalo, NY trio comprised of Westside Gunn, Benny The Butcher and Conway The Machine, whom recently debuted their first group album, WWCD, under Eminem’s Shady Records.
4. From UK grime to Jamaican dancehall, Drake has pulled inspiration from several global musical styles during his career, resulting in occasional accusations of cultural appropriation. He lays these claims to rest, though, voicing his commitment to due diligence. “The chatter is one thing, but in the community amongst the real Gs that are doing this shit, I’m solidified for sure.”
5. One of his biggest regrets is not developing a successful relationship with The Weeknd, especially when they were both coming up during the Take Care days as the two biggest artists from Toronto.
6. Drake’s favorite Drake album? Nothing Was The Same.
